Federal representatives served subpoenas on the Hospice house earlier today, citing intent to have Terri Schiavo appear before Congress on March 28, 2005. Judge Greer has ordered that the subpoenas wouldn't be entertained and that Terri's feeding tube would be IMMEDIATELY removed.
It is unclear if this has happened yet or not.
Attorney Barbara Weller was with Terri earlier today. She told the media that, during her visit with Terri, she explained to her what was happening. According to Weller, Terri began to cry and could not be quieted. She tried to coach Terri to say "Let me live" but she simply was having too much difficulty.
Congress is reported by local news to still hold be holding hearings on this matter. It is unclear at this stage who will win this tug of war - the United States or a probate judge from Clearwater. All that is known is that an innocent life is in the balance.
If you can be at Hospice, now is the time.

Do persons in a "persistent vegetative state" normally declare "let me live"? There is nothing "vegitative" about Terri.

Kenneth, you're referring to CAT scans from TEN YEARS AGO! Do you realize how much neurology has advanced in that time? A man's word (that comes seven years later, no less) is not enough to kill someone on. DNR orders, written and notarized, yes. A man's word, especially when that man has a lot to gain by her death, no.
Cruelty? For a man sentencing an aware woman to death by dehydration, you are a fine one to talk. Ask someone who's survived the process -- and there are people out there. Go do some research.
You know what I think? I think Michael Schiavo is trying to kill her so she can't testify that he beat her nearly to death that day. Why else will he refuse to have her examined?

Cat scans cannot be used to make a clinical diagnosis of PVS and lack sensitivity. Neurologists do not use them to make life and death decisions.

I agree with Matthew. A couple years ago I heard of Terri's state and since then haven't really followed along, but a friend brought up her story to me again yesterday. I think it's upsetting how selfish her family, especially her parents, are. They pretty much are keeping her here on earth for their own comfort, that someday their daughter will be their daughter again. If they are so religious, which is what every website I have read on this case says they are, they don't understand that if they do let her go she will have an even better life in heaven. If they're waiting for a miracle like God to bring her back and use her for his glory, why has it been 12 years that she's been in this state? I think God is telling them and everyone else that she doesn't belong to the earth anymore, it's time to let her go. Her husband only wants whats best for her, he knows that there's a better life for her if he lets go. He doesn't want his wife to suffer anymore and of course after twevle years he's moved on with his life, he has accepted the truth. She won't come out of that state, I just hope that someday the parents are spiritually mature enough to understand this concept, there's a better life for her in God's Kingdom. it's time to let her go home.
I can't believe this is happening. We "put down" our pets more humanely than this. Just because she can't feed herself means that their hands are clean? They might as well put her in the garbage,or bury her alive. It is the same.

This is not about "letting her go" but making her go. Imposed death by deliberate dehydration and Starvation. We are not allowed to do this to animals. It is painful...try going 2 days without food or even a day without water. Killing the disabled is highly immoral.
Terri is not dying, nor is she PVS. She is a severely disabled woman who has not had proper rehabilitation. Terri is very much aware but she has limited ability to communicate and no speech therapy all these years. She did have a very limited speech in the nursing home. It is an outrageous case of neglect and possible abuse. Her case needs to be heard in the federal courts with important witnesses called to testify who have been shut out by Greer.
We pray for Terri's release from the hospice and the provision of that care she needs and deserves. May she soon enjoy the Florida sunshine of which she has been deprived.

this is all hear say, depends on what doctors you choose to open your mind to and which one you close. The doctors who have actually been there have said shes has not communicated or even blinked. I pray she dies quickly and painless and moves on to the next life
Read the detailed neurological assessment of Dr.William Hammesfahr who examined Terri extensively over several hours. Report issued on September 12,2002. Also read the affadafits of the nurses who cared for Terri. Carla Iyer is an RN who gave excellent care to Terri while at the nursing home. She wrote careful notes of Terri's responses and progress which were entered in her chart as part of her medical record later to be deleted which is against the law. It is illegal to delete or alter the patient's medical record. Her testimony is VITAL and should be heard.
Nursing progress notes should carry a lot of weight because they are constant caregivers and are in a good postion to observe Terri's responses. Any diagnosis of PVS has to be made carefully over a period of time. Dr. Hammesfahr, who is a world renowned and board certified neurologist and has sucessfully treated many stroke patients. He has some very positive impressions of Terri. Please read them!!

Its so crazy that the federal government has to waste there time passing a bill for one effect one person and they have no bussiness being in it. Its a family matter and were wasting tax payers dollars. I feel for the pairents and family but let her go already.
What about the evidence of abuse? I consider not giving Teri the rehab treatment she desperately NEEDED, and with-holding huge amounts of medical treatment, loving visitors, medical records and findings, a loving and safe home with family that loves her - I consider all of this ABUSE!
And what about the ex girlfriend that was too afraid of Michael Schiavo to testify about how abusive she WITNESSED in the past?
Judge Greer must be one abusive SOB -OR- he's getting rich here... this is in NO WAY justice if that what is being attempted here.
Mathew, what are you reading out there?? ARE you reading anything about this case?? She CAN respond to people, as well as stimilus! She can SMILE, BLINK, SWALLOW, and CRY NON STOP when told she will soon be killed. How would you like to be laying there praying to live and be cared for, hoping agaist hope for the treatments that may bring you back a voice, having emotions swirling around in your head but no way to get them out and then to be told someone will kill you today?
You say its no on but the families business, yet here YOU are giving your own (though distorted and misinformed) opinions as freely as any of us. You complain about tax money for a lost cause, yet the parents just want to take her HOME and feed her naturally! There is treatment being denied to her, thats proven to cause IMPROVEMENT! There is much more going on that you seem to be very unaware of. I would hope that you get all your research going before making any further comments.
I think it is a terrible situation to allow a human being to starve to death. Whenever, my father became ill, I had to decide at that time for the feeding tube. Please let Terri live!
She has been on the feeding tube for 15 years. Hubby needs to get on with his life. If they would not have had her on the feeding tube 15 years ago, then it would be a different situation.
