Fifteen years ago, Holland had a case similar to [Terri] Schiavo's, A judge allowed the husband of Ineke Stinissen, who had been in a coma for several years, to remove her feeding tube. She died of starvation, and her case paved the way for Holland's pro-euthanasia legislation. - more

I believe that Terri's case is only a stepping stone into allowing Euthanasia to spread like wildfire in our nation (as it already is in Europe). I posted more about this on my blog, but we need to keep fighting the "death squad" in black. This is not just about one case. This is about our future culture.

I GUESS IT DOSEN'T MATTER IF AN INDIVIDUAL HAS A LIVING WILL OR NOT... Hmmm, does this mean the guardian of a mentally retarded person can decide to withdraw nutrition because their quality of life is not what we might hope fore it to be?

It is simply reprehensible that Michael Schiavo is simply going to allow his wife to die, and the US government is going to stand by and let him do it. I believe it is Terri's right as a US citizen to have her case pled before a panel who has also reviewed the activity leading up to her "accident." There seems to be quite a bit of information pointing to the husband himself as the cause of Terri's current situation and, if that is the case, the US is going to assist him in a homicide that will have taken him over 15 years to commit. I personally do not believe he has anyone's best interests in mind except his own. Terri should be re-examined by the Nobel-Prize winning physician who has already been working with her to determine to what extent she can be rehabilitated. He has stated in no uncertain terms that there are many people currently in an educational setting who are in worse condition than Terri. If he believes that he can help her, she deserves that chance. Are all care-givers of those who cannot feed themselves now to stand by and watch them die? Let's hope not.

This is not a case of euthanasia! Euthanasia is defined by Merriam-Webster�s Dictionary (the official dictionary of the American vernacular of the English language) �the act or practice of killing or permitting the death of hopelessly sick or injured individuals (as persons or domestic animals) in a relatively painless way for reasons of mercy� while it is easy to see why some may see this as a case of euthanasia it clearly is not. Terri Shiavo is not being allowed to pass away out of mercy, but rather out of her wishes for herself. This case would be euthanasia if Mrs. Shiavo had a terminal disease such as ALS and asked her doctor to end her life. Terri Shiavo simply stated to her husband (her legal guardian) that she would not want extraordinary steps taken to continue her life if there was no hope. Terri�s state is one of no hope. It is extremely unfortunate but that is the case.
