Terri , 41, is the woman who is at the center of a tug of war between her parents, Mary and Robert Schindler, and her estranged husband, Michael Schiavo. The husband, who is engaged to another woman by whom he has two children, has sought and obtained a court order from Sixth Court Court Judge George W. Greer to withhold the feeding tube from Terri which will cause her death by starvation and dehydration.
The U.S. Supreme Court last month refused to review the matter of Terri’s Law, enacted by Florida’s Governor Jeb Bush and the Florida Legislature in October, 2003, after the Florida Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional.
There are still several motions and legal actions pending in the Florida courts.
Based on a ruling Feb. 14 by the 2nd District Court of Appeals, which struck down the Schindlers’ attempt to void Greer’s order on religious grounds and First Amendment rights, Schiavo’s attorney, George Felos, is pushing for the removal of her feeding tube on Feb. 22.
At the center of the life and death situation is Greer who has issued the death order to remove the thin plastic tube which provide nutrition and hydration to Terri three times a day. Despite strong evidence of alleged wrongdoing in the case, Greer has refused to allow an evidentiary hearing and has refused to allow a criminal investigation into the case.
